Bora Stories






Quest'anno, la Bora, il vento che soffia da ENE a Trieste e sulla costa dalmata, ha soffiato intensamente ed ha portato un freddo intenso per molti giorni. Molti avranno già visto le foto di barche ghiacciate e di vari danni che questa ha provocato, io volevo farvi vedere cosa questa ha combinato al mio club.  
Nelle foto che vedete sopra oltre ad uno dei moli completamente ghiacciati ci sono le foto di uno dei nostri gommoni. Sebbene questo fosse stato legato con cura, non è stata presa una piccola precauzione: mettere una protezione morbida sotto alla cima che lo assicurava a terra. Infatti il continuo sfregarsi dovuto alle vibrazioni indotte dal vento ha portato infine al bucarsi del tubolare. Un bel danno non c'è che dire...
A posteriori può sembrare ovvio che un danno così potesse avverarsi, ma non è facile capirlo da subito. In un prossimo post racconterò come ho rotto il mio bompresso sempre per via della Bora!

Also this year the Bora, the typical wind blowing here in Trieste and the croatian coast, blew very strongly freezing everything and causing various damages. Also SailingAnarchy published some photos of the event. 
I wanted to share some pics of what happened at my club. The pictures above are of the frozen docks and of the rubber boats. As you can see the poor boat has three visible holes from where the air can now leak. This was caused by the vibrations induced by the wind that rubbed the rope against the cloth. It might seem obvious but never the less makes me think: securing the boat to the ground was mandatory but without any protection under the rope, absolutely useless. Such things aren't always easily predictable.
In a next post I will tell how my bowsprit broke to pieces because of the Bora!
