Say "cheese"!

Buon Vento,

Sailing isn't my only passion, I really love taking photographs too! Quite unsurprisingly one of my favorite subjects is the sailing boat. My club usually asks me to give boat assistance and to set the course during regattas we organize. On these occasions I bring my camera with me and take "tons" of pictures.
My camera is the Canon 40D combined with numerous lenses, but when I bring her out on the coach boat I prefer the  wide 10-22 and the tele 70-300. All of this is packed in a wet proof NorthSails bag that I soft padded inside.
The base setting I use is time driven with a shutter speed of 1/1250 sec and 400 ISO, this enables me to stop water spray and action. In any case you must be careful that if the f number drops under f 8 you might find it troublesome to keep the boat in focus if she moves fast unless you set on "drive focus" on the camera, so that the focus changes continuously as the subject moves, but with many boats around the system might simply go mad!
The tele lens is perfect for taking shoots far away from the action and has an interesting blur effect on the background, I use it mainly on the weather mark. The wide-angle is perfect for stunning shots taken really close to the subject.
Some of my pics are visible on picasa!

Sail happily,
Giot
